I am cheap–I am not going to sugarcoat that fact! But, the fact remains that sometimes you have to buy something extra as a “quality of life” issue. Sometimes, watching something on YouTube is not enough…you want to go to a movie. Sometimes cooking at home isn’t enough…you’re craving some fast food. Life is too short to deny yourself every pleasure. So, when you “have” to spend money, at least do it in a way that you get some of your money back.
- Use points back cards for movie theaters and restaurants–I have a Subway rewards card and I am a member of similar rewards programs with the two major movie theaters in my area (Cinemark and Regal Cinemas). Every time you make a purchase, you get points that are redeemable for things like a free sub, free movie tickets or free popcorn. Do a web search on the restaurants and theaters you like to visit. Then see if they have a rewards program. If they do, then sign up. Charley’s Grilled Subs, Firehouse Subs and the aforementioned Subway are just a few of these restaurants that offer these rewards programs.
- See if your mall has a rewards program. You sign up on their website with your credit card. Every time you make a purchase with that credit card, it’s recorded. When you get to a certain amount of dollars spent, you get some cash back in your account to spend as you wish. My local mall is a member of the Spring Rewards program, so I am signed up for that.
This wasn’t much, but a little bit is better than nothing. If you “must” spend some money, then at least be rewarded for it!
